I was wondering why Bitcoin (BTC) had been surging these past two days; it turns out it was because oil prices had peaked and fallen sharply. Due to the ongoing conflict, oil prices reached near historical highs, which presented significant resistance, leading to a temporary price correction. Besides the technical chart patterns, what other factors caused such a significant downward adjustment in oil prices?
I did some quick research. We all know that the previous surge in oil prices was driven by market concerns about the Strait of Hormuz, the "world's oil valve," being completely cut off. However, just yesterday (March 9th), Trump publicly stated that the war with Iran was "very thorough" and "will end soon." These clear signals of a ceasefire directly undermined the fundamental logic behind this round of oil price increases, and market panic over supply disruptions quickly subsided.
Furthermore, under the pressure of soaring oil prices, G7 finance ministers held an emergency meeting and issued a statement saying they were prepared to take necessary measures, including coordinating the release of emergency oil reserves, to cool the market. The International Energy Agency (IEA) member countries hold over 1.2 billion barrels of emergency reserves. This expectation of potential market intervention directly curbed speculative enthusiasm.
As a result, under the dual impact of easing tensions and policy intervention, speculative funds that had previously flooded the market betting on continued oil price increases began a large-scale withdrawal. This panic selling triggered a stampede effect, exacerbating the decline in oil prices. WTI crude oil futures plummeted from a high of nearly $120 to around $81 within a single day, with an intraday drop of nearly 28%.
But will oil prices rise again? Yes! As long as the conflict continues, oil prices will inevitably remain highly volatile and are likely to show a steady upward trend. #TrumpSaysTheIranWarIsNearingTheEnd #InternationalOilPricesBreakOutOf$100 #StrategyIncreasesBitcoinHoldings
