Today, we are thrilled to announce that Guy Wuollet (@guywuolletjr) has been promoted to General Partner. We first met Guy in 2018 when he was studying Computer Science at Stanford University and was also a member of the university's rowing team. He initially joined our firm as an intern, working on the Enterprise Marketing team, but we quickly discovered his passion for the cryptocurrency space. Our collaboration with Guy continued: he first joined our cryptocurrency startup accelerator program, focusing on building decentralized internet service providers (ISPs); then conducted research at Protocol Labs; and finally, he served as a teaching assistant to our Research Partner, @danboneh. After joining us full-time in 2020, Guy began investing in infrastructure, decentralized finance (DeFi), and decentralized payment networks (DePIN). He has consistently been a solid and creative leader, making significant contributions to over 20 investments, including Solana, LayerZero, Gensyn, EigenLayer, Daylight, and Morpho. Based on his previous investment insights on projects like Orchid, Nym, and Helium, Guy established our investment philosophy regarding DePIN. He wrote a classic blog post on the importance of DePIN and assisted us in investing in Gensyn. He later wrote about decentralized energy and spearheaded our investment in Daylight. While assisting in running our accelerator, Guy also invested in decentralized transportation, robotics, and artificial intelligence projects. DeFi has always been central to Guy's investment philosophy, but his early investment in Morpho stemmed primarily from his confidence in the founders. He saw in @PaulFrambot and his team a rare combination of deep technical expertise and a clear vision. Since then, Morpho's total value locked has grown to billions of dollars, becoming one of the leading protocols in the DeFi space. Their V2 release marked a significant leap forward in the efficiency and scale of on-chain lending. In his collaboration with the founders, Guy demonstrated profound technical expertise and pragmatic thinking, a rarity in the industry. The founders often told me they were impressed by Guy's ability to systematically read and understand relevant materials. He provided invaluable feedback on protocol design and other complex technical issues. His articles and advice on token and protocol design have had a profound impact on many projects in our portfolio. Beyond his investment skills, Guy demonstrates a calm, positive attitude and a good sense of humor both within the company and when interacting with the founders. As the cryptocurrency team has grown from a small group to over 80 people, he has helped recruit and mentor many talented investors, researchers, and operations staff who have made the team what it is today. Guy is an integral part of the team, and it's exciting to see him grow and progress over the past five years. Guy has joined my team, @alive_eth
