Luna Coin is the native token of the Terra blockchain platform and comes in two versions: the old and new.
1. Old Luna Coin (LUNC): Launched in May 2019, it initially traded at $2.42 and remained below $0.50 for a long time. It saw an increase of over 800% in 2021, reaching an all-time high of $119.18 in April 2022. However, starting on May 8th, the price of Luna Coin plummeted due to the depegging of the UST stablecoin, reaching almost zero on May 12th. On May 25th, the Terra blockchain ecosystem announced the creation of a new blockchain and the issuance of a new Luna Coin. The old Luna Coin was renamed Terra Classic (LUNC).
2. New Luna Coin (LUNA): On May 27, 2022, the new Luna Coin, which no longer includes the UST stablecoin, was distributed to holders of the existing Luna Coin and UST. The new Luna Coin experienced significant price fluctuations after its launch, reaching as high as $20 before declining steadily. As of August 20, 2025, the price was $0.1527, the 24-hour trading volume was $11.68 million, and the circulating supply was 709.98 million.
