Great achievements take time. The breakthroughs we see in artificial intelligence today are the result of decades of hard work by outstanding individuals. (The first paper on neural networks was published in 1943.) The history of the internet dates back to the 1960s, but the emergence of the commercial internet is thanks to visionary builders and thoughtful policy initiatives of the 1990s. Building new technological systems is a long-term project, and this is exactly how it works: after a long period of infrastructure development, there are crucial turning points.
If you want to work in a more established industry, that's great. If you want to create a new industry from scratch, it can be chaotic and frustrating, but it's an important undertaking.
