@OpenAI has been on tenterhooks lately, and @sama's actions clearly show his anxiety:
1) While Gemini and Apple announced hardware compatibility, ChatGPT Go pushed for further globalization and launched embedded advertising in its models to expand monetization. This is essentially a strategic maneuver, using short-term expansion of its consumer user base to counter the weakness of its long-term traffic pool being eroded.
2) Codex is about to launch a series of intensive releases, aiming not only to reach Cybersecurity High readiness level but also to possess GPT-5 level code understanding capabilities. This highlights their absolute confidence in mastering highly destructive "hacker-level" models and signals that their focus is no longer limited to model capabilities themselves.
3) Gemini's MAU has surged to 650 million, eroding ChatGPT's market share for two consecutive months. Google, however, leveraged its distribution channel advantages to overtake it in the consumer market. It seems ChatGPT's only remaining advantage is its strong consumer reputation and brand recognition.
4) Sam urgently announced a live-streamed Town event for AI developers. Hall, discussing next-generation tools—is this an attempt to establish a presence within Claude's highly engaged developer ecosystem? Is it finally time to launch a defensive battle for B2B services? Claude's Skills, Cowork, and Clawdbot have been incredibly popular among elite developers lately.
5) Sam disclosed that OpenAI's API business generated $1 billion in new ARR in a single month, using real revenue to refute the pessimistic claims of declining traffic. The problem is, this data was released under the premise that other companies are not in a hurry to monetize, while OpenAI is actively pursuing commercial monetization. Whether it has any value for horizontal comparison is a matter of opinion.
