#PeckShieldAlert reported over 200 cryptocurrency hacks (excluding scams) in 2025, resulting in over $2.67 billion in losses, a 24% increase from $2.15 billion in 2024. February saw the most dramatic surge in history, with 20 incidents resulting in $1.51 billion being stolen. This was primarily due to the #Bybit vulnerability attack, currently the largest single hack in cryptocurrency history.
#BNBChain became the most targeted blockchain, accounting for 29.2% of all attacks, a significant shift. However, #Ethereum still suffered the largest economic losses, accounting for 69% of total losses due to high-value targets like Bybit. #SUI followed closely behind as a noteworthy emerging target.
Hackers are increasingly shifting their targets from DeFi to #CEXs and large organizations. By exploiting sophisticated supply chain attacks and stolen private keys, these entities’ share of total losses surged from 46% in 2024 to 75%.
