2025 Cryptocurrency Market: RWA and Layer 1 Lead the Gains, AI and Meme Decline According to CoinGecko data, RWA (Real-World Asset) was the strongest performing crypto asset in 2025, with an average annual increase of 185.76%, primarily driven by Keeta Network (1794.9% growth). Layer 1 ranked second with an 80.31% increase, with Zcash and Monero growing by 691.3% and 143.6% respectively. US-origin crypto assets ranked third with a 30.62% annual increase, entirely driven by Zcash's strong performance. Despite their popularity, AI and Meme assets declined by 50.18% and 31.61% respectively in 2025; DeFi and DEX sectors declined by 34.79% and 55.53% respectively; Layer 2 recorded a -40.63% loss, suffering its second consecutive year of losses. The worst performers were GameFi and DePIN, which plummeted by 75.16% and 76.74% respectively, while the Solana ecosystem also declined by 64.17%.
