🇺🇸 Muslim rights organization sues DeSantis: "He has no right to call us terrorists"
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the United States, has sued Ron de Santis in federal court after he designated it a "foreign terrorist organization."
CAIR, which has more than 20 chapters across the United States, argues that de Santis' executive order is unauthorized and unconstitutional.
The lawsuit, filed late Monday, asks a federal judge to block the execution of the order. The order also targets the Muslim Brotherhood and prohibits state agencies from cooperating with either organization or anyone who has supported them.
CAIR says they are being discriminated against for defending free speech—particularly for supporting those who speak out for Palestinian rights.
The organization calls de Santis' accusations "baseless" and states that only the federal government has the authority to make terrorism designations.
DeSantis responded:
"I look forward to the results of the investigation—especially the financial situation of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). It should be very revealing!"
This battle is about to go to court, and DeSantis says he is prepared.
