We are establishing a new AI Team (dAI Team) within the Ethereum Foundation.
Our mission: to make Ethereum the preferred settlement and coordination layer for AI and the machine economy.
This team will focus on two primary areas:
- The AI Economy on Ethereum: Providing a way for AI agents and bots to pay, coordinate, and adhere to rules without a middleman.
- The Decentralized AI Stack: Ensuring that the future of AI no longer relies solely on a handful of entities, but instead has open, verifiable, and censorship-resistant alternatives.
We believe Ethereum will be as valuable to AI developers today as it was in science fiction. Therefore, we will collaborate closely with ecosystem projects to accelerate progress and push the boundaries of research and innovation at the intersection of AI and blockchain, bridging these two communities that often work in parallel.
We will work alongside the Ethereum Foundation's protocol and ecosystem teams to align protocol improvements with the needs of AI developers and fund innovative public goods to make Ethereum the best home for AI.
Ethereum makes AI more trustworthy, and AI makes Ethereum more useful. The more transactions intelligent agents make, the more they need a neutral, underlying layer to maintain their value and reputation. Ethereum benefits from being that layer, and AI benefits from being freed from lock-in to a few centralized platforms.
We will continue our recent work on ERC-8004—a standard for proving who an AI agent is and whether it can be trusted—and continue to support new upgrades and standards. Inspired by the d/acc philosophy and Ethereum's values, we will support projects that leverage Ethereum to build a more resilient and secure AI ecosystem, enabling humans and AI to thrive together.
Ethereum + AI aims to ensure humans maintain autonomy and enable AI to reach its full potential. Neutral, verifiable, and censorship-resistant infrastructure means AI works for all of us.
