The things we face every day can be roughly divided into four categories:
First, neither urgent nor important;
Second, urgent but not important;
Third, urgent and important;
Fourth, not urgent but important.
Fools waste their time, obsessing over trivial matters that are neither urgent nor important;
Mediocrity tirelessly spends their lives on urgent but insignificant tasks;
Most people constantly deal with urgent and important problems, as if they were perpetually putting out fires.
It is the fourth category of "not urgent but important" that truly determines a person's stature and height. Reading extensively, developing interests, honing skills, and building systems—these activities, which accumulate and generate compound interest, are often the most worthwhile long-term investments. Unfortunately, however, most people never proactively and consistently engage in these activities. Look at the people around you and you'll see this is the norm.
