Some time ago, Raoul Pal (the founder of Real Vision) spoke again, saying that he was optimistic about SUI and that it had a chance to enter the top five in 2025, and mentioned the title of "Solana Killer" more than once.
To be honest, when I saw this sentence, I was skeptical at first - after all, SUI had a rough journey in the first half of this year. It fell 44% in the first quarter, and although it rose 17% in the second quarter, it is still far from the "return of the king".
However, Pal's point of view is not completely unreasonable. He believes that as long as BTC can break through the historical high, SUI is expected to break through after fluctuating below $3.5 for a period of time. If it can hold the key support level of $2.2, there will be a chance - this is the key watershed he drew for the future trend.
And Coingecko also gave a bolder number: if SUI can touch Solana's current market value (US$77 billion), then the price of SUI may be pulled up to $22.9. Doesn't it sound tempting? The increase is almost 8 times the current level.
But then again, reality is cold.
The ratio of SUI/SOL tells us that SUI is obviously lagging behind now. After May, SUI was nearly 26% behind SOL, and the ratio chart also pulled back 26.7%. It is currently hovering around 0.0158 - this is a technical support level. If it can hold, it is not ruled out that there will be a rebound of more than 50%. But if it falls below, it may take more time.
DeFi builds momentum, heat cools down
In fact, SUI was able to "recover blood" in the second quarter, largely due to its DeFi performance.
In April, SUI's DEX monthly trading volume exceeded US$11 billion, much higher than in March, and in May, this number directly reached a record high of US$14.12 billion. The meme craze of the DeFi ecosystem and the overall market recovery did make its trend flourish for a while, and also pushed the price to $4.2.
However, this kind of market that relies on the popularity of DeFi is difficult to sustain. As soon as the temperature dropped in June, the transaction demand also declined, and the price of SUI immediately fell back to around $2.2. In fact, this is a typical cyclical DeFi effect: it is like a rocket when it is hot, and like an ice cellar when it is cold.
But Pal is still bullish. He mentioned a key technical form: SUI's trend is close to the vertex of a symmetrical triangle-this is a typical structural form of many currencies before breaking through. If the form is established, the next wave of momentum is likely to be upward.
Written at the end
Can #SUI become a "Solana killer"?
No one can be sure of this question now. But it has potential, narrative, and a certain ecological foundation, which is a fact.
It's just that the currency circle is too fast, and whether it can survive to realize the dream is the biggest uncertainty.
If you are also observing SUI, or are struggling whether to hold it for a long time, please leave a message to chat, and let us judge together whether this tug-of-war between "potential and reality" is worth participating in.
