Elon Musk: “Space solar power is actually cheaper than terrestrial solar power because you don’t need thick glass or frames to protect it from extreme weather. So once the cost of getting into orbit drops to a very low level, deploying AI in space immediately becomes incredibly attractive.
It’s practically obvious. Basically, as you go into space, the economies of scale increase, and things get easier over time; whereas when you’re trying to add more and more power on Earth, you run out of space, start taking up the space that’s readily available, and then you move on to the next phase. Nobody wants to install this kind of thing in their backyard.
So, over time, adding power on Earth becomes increasingly difficult and expensive, but in space, over time, it actually becomes cheaper and easier.”
