🔔Korea's National Tax Service Plans to Select Private Virtual Asset Custody Service Provider in the First Half of This Year
According to a report by ZDNet Korea on March 20th, the National Tax Service (NTS) plans to select a private virtual asset custody service provider as early as the first half of this year to manage its seized virtual assets. This move is a follow-up measure to the virtual asset theft incident that occurred last month. On February 26th, the NTS accidentally leaked mnemonic phrases when releasing information on the results of on-site searches of late taxpayers, leading to the theft of seized virtual assets twice. The NTS will focus on reviewing security requirements, company size, and whether the provider is insured under the Virtual Asset User Protection Act when selecting a service provider. Currently, this work is being handled by the "Virtual Asset Management System Enhancement Working Group (TF)," established on March 11th. In addition, the NTS plans to consult with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to establish a dedicated "Digital Asset Management Division" to integrate the management of virtual assets from seizure and custody to sale.
