Every time I encounter an unfamiliar phrase, my train of thought is interrupted, it's so annoying.
Using DD and cmd+tab to switch to Google or CC to search, reading the answer, and then using cmd+tab to switch back—where was I?
Burning away in CC? Now I either have to scroll down to ask an irrelevant question and then can't find where I left off, or waste screen space opening another CC just to see a single line of answer.
I spent an hour developing wutmean—double-click a word, double-click F1, and the explanation pops up instantly. Press Esc to close. No more interruptions to my work.
Open source, macOS, comes with an API key
brew tap jasonfdg/tap
brew install --cask wutmean
PS: Similar tools exist—but they're either too slow, try to handle ten things at once, have overly complex interfaces, don't use AI at all, or only work in a browser. All I want is an answer that's available in two seconds, anywhere on the screen.
