My mom encountered a new scam today. I just went on vacation to Hunan a couple of days ago, and she suddenly received a package from there. At first, she thought it was a gift from me. Upon opening it, she found several tubes of hand cream and a JD.com gift card, which looked quite "legitimate." She immediately asked me about it, and I promptly told her it was a scam. Later, after searching online, I discovered that many people had encountered the same scam; it's a relatively new type of fraud. The hand cream was a cheap item—10 tubes for 1.99 yuan on Pinduoduo. I want to warn everyone, especially older family members, that these "small gifts first" scams are almost always the beginning of a bait-and-switch operation.
