The main interest group is the 2,500 licensed "spidermen" in Hong Kong, with an average age of 55, who are too old to learn steel scaffolding. Therefore, Hong Kong is currently the only modern city that uses bamboo scaffolding on a large scale. Even this small market is so tightly controlled by local interests.
