This is absolutely disastrous. Users are required to be online at all times and have less than 24 hours to prepare before shutting down Twitter to avoid having their country/region seen by everyone.
The way push notifications are pushed is terrible, with absolutely no user choice or consent. This is completely different from previous terms of service update emails, which should have given users time to delete their accounts if they disagreed with the new policy.
It's sad to see people cheering for this further erosion of anonymity. This is practically a gift to authoritarian regimes, and I believe it will have a chilling effect.
Let's not forget that platforms used to have a responsibility to dismantle manipulative networks and were proud of it. But that hasn't happened since 2022.
