I'm increasingly convinced that humanoid robots are just a disguise for AI; robots don't necessarily have to be humanoid. Octopus-shaped, scabbard-shaped, Cthulhu-shaped, headless—these might be more cost-effective and efficient. Humanoid robots simply lower the barrier to human acceptance. One day, when robots are ubiquitous in our lives, we won't have a choice anymore.
The future depicted in The Matrix might still be optimistic.
