Three Fed governors may dissent at the September meeting, a first since 1988.
The U.S. Senate narrowly confirmed Milan as the next Fed governor on Monday, securing one of the 12 votes required on the eve of the Fed's crucial September policy meeting. Two other Fed governors appointed by President Trump during his first term, Bowman and Waller, both dissented from the decision to keep interest rates unchanged at the July meeting, favoring a rate cut. Analysts suggest that due to weaker-than-expected labor market data, the two may dissent again at the September meeting, favoring a larger rate cut. A Fed policy decision hasn't been dissented by three governors since the beginning of former Chairman Alan Greenspan's term in 1988. (Jinshi)
