Base has undergone a major rebrand. Base L2 is now Base Chain, and the Coinbase Wallet is now the Base app. As part of this rebrand, the wallet has been reimagined as an "all-encompassing" app, combining Farcaster social features, Zora-powered monetization, mini-programs, payments, exchanges, and encrypted chat. The Base app is currently in invite-only beta. I got a sneak peek and spent a day using it. Here's what to expect. ~~ Overview by @wmpeaster ~~ App Navigation After downloading the app, you'll be prompted to create a @base account or import your Coinbase wallet. You'll then need to create or connect a @farcaster_xyz account and select a social category like "Crypto" or "News" to enter. The home screen prominently features community apps. The top tab takes you to popular Farcaster mini-programs. Below is a carousel of featured apps (such as @fx_hash_, @Mamo_agent, and @qrcoindotfun), as well as discovery categories like "Games," "Social," and "Art." The next tab (marked by a rectangle between two short lines) takes you to the in-app social feed, powered by Farcaster. You'll notice market capitalization statistics below the post. This is a result of the @zora token integration, which allows any post to become a tradable token. To publish a post, tap the pencil button in the bottom right corner. You'll see the familiar minting UI, with a switch in the bottom left to enable or disable minting. After I published the post above, my wallet immediately received its initial earnings from Zora. You can also use the QR code button in the wallet to withdraw your address and deposit more funds. Another feature: Tap the "Buy" button to link your main @coinbase account and top up your Base wallet with USD or cryptocurrency. To trade or trade, tap the arrow icon. You'll access the swap interface, as well as the ability to send, request, and claim swaps by clicking on a payment link. The chat box icon leads to the chat center. You can connect directly with followers or chat with on-chain AI assistants like @bankrbot and Mamo. The bell icon displays Farcaster notifications. The wallet icon is used to manage assets within the app. Zoom out The Base app is smooth, easy to use, and offers a rich on-chain experience. It has clear breakout potential. Farcaster and Zora are two of the most compelling projects in the cryptocurrency space, and they integrate seamlessly here. The result is a wallet unlike any other. The focus on tasks is particularly striking. I launched a token through @flaunchgg, traded it on Bankr, and more—all within the app.
