I saw @Mira_Network raise a particularly thought-provoking point: AI's "bias" is actually more dangerous than "illusion." Many of us worry about AI spouting nonsense when using it, but what's even more terrifying is that it's slowly shaping the way we consume information, even though we may not be able to detect it.
AI is becoming increasingly powerful. It's no longer just a quick essay writer; it's increasingly becoming an "intermediary" between us and information. You ask it questions, and it summarizes the content, analyzes the data, and interprets the world. This sounds efficient, but it also means it's become a superpowered "information filter." People used to do their own research online, but now many simply ask AI for help. If this continues, AI could become our "sole window" to the world.
The problem is, bias isn't as easy to spot as illusion. If AI fabricates a fake paper, anyone can easily tell it's fake. But if AI subtly presents you with only certain positions, preferences, or perspectives, you might not even realize it's biased at first. These biases could be caused by the training data or by the algorithm reinforcing user preferences. Over time, the information we see becomes increasingly narrow and "comfortable," but potentially further from the truth.
The most frightening thing is that this change happens silently. Like a frog in boiling water, by the time you realize the problem, the information environment may have been "trained" beyond recognition. It doesn't make mistakes overnight; instead, it gradually influences your thinking and judgment, until you no longer even know what constitutes objective, complete information.
The more powerful AI becomes, the less we should blindly trust it. Rather than worrying about it making a mistake, we should focus on whether it is gradually changing our understanding of the world. This chronic, subtle bias is the real hidden danger of the future.
