According to Cointelegraph, the founder of crypto fintech company Bankera has been accused of using the funds raised from its 2018 initial coin offering (ICO) to purchase luxury properties worldwide. Nearly half of the ICO funds (about $114 million) of founders Vytautas Karalevičius, Justas Dobiliauskas and Mantas Mockevičius were transferred to a bank they purchased in Vanuatu, according to leaked company records and bank statements. The bank then issued loans to three-person-owned companies to acquire luxury properties on the French Cote d'Azur and Lithuania. Bankera has promised to become a "bank in the blockchain era" and obtain an EU banking license, but it has not yet been implemented. Its original planned revenue sharing plan was suspended in 2022. The founder’s lawyer denied the fraud in the ICO but declined to comment on the specific deal.
