According to foreign media Biomass Magazine, on April 23, the American Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA) held talks with officials of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to emphasize the importance of strengthening local biofuel production capacity to the Trump administration's "energy-led" strategy. The talks follow a recent research report released by Lipow Oil Associates. The report shows that the U.S. advanced biofuel production has reached nearly 4.9 billion gallons in 2024, and capacity is expected to increase to 7.2 billion gallons in 2025.
Based on this, ABFA officiallyRecommended EPA to raise its renewable fuel obligation (RVO) in 2026 to 5.75 billion gallons, to better reflect the current growth potential of the domestic biofuel industry in the United States.
ABFA Chairman Michael McAdams said: "We fully support the policy direction of the Trump administration in unlocking the potential of US energy production. To achieve the grand strategic goals proposed by the White House, we must adopt the 'all-energy option' strategy and actively leverage the growing strength of the domestic biofuel industry. When formulating RVO policies for 2026 and beyond, EPA should draw on past experience and recognize the actual contributions made by our industry to the US economy and energy structure. Improving RVO to 5.75 billion gallons will provide American farmers and production companies with stronger policy certainty and confidence in development."
Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, also pointed out: "All available evidence shows that the domestic biofuel industry in the United States has a strong utilization level. The relevant data clearly show that domestic companies have achieved substantial capacity breakthroughs."
The call is expected to have an important impact on the future development path and policy direction of the US renewable fuel market, and related trends deserve continued attention.
