As artificial intelligence (AI) booms, computing and cloud infrastructure are becoming increasingly important. Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto today announced the launch of Shelby, a high-speed hot storage protocol. It is not only a challenge to traditional cloud platforms such as Amazon (AWS) and Google Cloud, but also a sign that the old players in the crypto industry are gradually returning to the center of the stage.
What is Shelby? Aptos and Jump join hands to build a cloud hot storage network
Shelby is a decentralized hot storage protocol and network designed for applications with high frequency and real-time requirements, such as video streaming, AI data processing, dynamic social content, and DePIN (decentralized infrastructure) applications.
Storage is broken. Big Tech controls data. Web3 can’t rely on Web2 infra. It ends now.@ShelbyServes, Web3’s 1st cloud-grade infra, by @jump_ @AptosLabs. Decentralized, monetizable storage for data-rich apps.

The underlying architecture is Aptos’ high-performance node network, which allows content to be read and controlled in seconds, while supporting features such as usage-based billing, micro-rewards, and digital rights management.
In other words, Shelby is not just a cloud storage protocol for Web3, but a new computing platform compatible with most public chains. It is fast, composable, verifiable, and has full sovereignty and free pricing.
From cold storage to hot data: Shelby breaks the bottleneck of decentralized storage
The announcement pointed out that in the past few years, although decentralized storage protocols such as Filecoin or Arweave have continued to develop, they are mostly used for static or cold data storage, such as blockchain snapshots, backups or long-term archives. Shelby redefines a data language: "Hot, Programmable Storage".
This means that data is not just stored, but can be instantly retrieved, intelligently charged, set up with usage rights, and evolve as needed. Whether it is live broadcasting, NFT dynamic resource loading, AI training data version control, or even real-time updates of Web3 community dynamic walls, the performance and programmable logic provided by Shelby are filling the gaps that cold storage could not reach in the past.
The return of the giant whale: Jump Crypto's layout gradually surfaced
Shelby is not a small experiment of a single team, but a strategic infrastructure jointly built by Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto. On one side is Aptos, one of the leaders of the Meta system Move language project, and on the other side is Jump Crypto, which handles everything from industry development, investment to high-frequency quantitative trading.
In the once glorious 2021-2022, the stealthy Jump Crypto was a force that could not be ignored in the crypto industry. However, the collapse of Terra/UST, the collapse of FTX, and the hacking of Wormhole not only caused the company to suffer heavy losses, but also involved them in multiple lawsuits. As a result, Jump has become more low-key and is rumored to be gradually fading out of the Web3 industry.

Now, they are back, looking at Jump's layout in the past six months, the company seems to have put the focus back on the core essence, building the next generation of infrastructure, from tokenization service providers, fiber optic DEIN projects, to Sui DEX.
As crypto KOL @dov_wo said, Jump's move to promote Shelby is not just a product launch, but also a clarion call for the recovery of industry confidence.
Shelby: High performance provides the greatest impetus for application developers
Currently, Shelby is expected to launch the developer Devnet in the fourth quarter of 2025, and then enter the public beta stage. The first wave of support for the Aptos chain is the coordination layer, and it is compatible with mainstream public chains such as Ethereum and Solana. It is expected to expand to the modular blockchain ecosystem in the future.
Aptos Engineering Director Pranav Raval emphasized that Shelby will enable new types of applications such as AI, video, social, DePIN, etc. to take root, grow and expand in the Web3 world:
When data is activated, it will build a new world and power a new economy, creativity and coordination.
