BNB Chain is announcing a strategic update to its execution client support. As the network continues to advance performance and stability, the recommended client list is being refined to support the ecosystem’s long-term needs.
NodeReal, one of the key contributors to BNB Chain infrastructure, will discontinue support for the BNB Chain Erigon client, with the full sunset scheduled for the end of 2025.
Key Changes
Erigon Sunset
Support for the Erigon client will end on December 31, 2025. All Erigon operators are urged to plan their migration well before this date.
Introducing Reth
BNB Chain is adding support for Reth-BSC, a high-performance Rust-based client. Reth offers significantly improved speed, lower resource usage, and a modular design built for the future.
Commitment to Client Diversity
To maintain a healthy and resilient network, BNB Chain will fully support a multi-client ecosystem. The two officially recommended and supported execution clients will be:
- Reth (Rust-based)
- Geth (Go-based)
Why This Transition?
The transition reflects a community decision to evolve the client ecosystem strategically. It is driven by the collective aim of the BNB Chain community to focus resources on next-generation clients like Reth, which offer superior performance and efficiency.
This move also follows NodeReal’s decision to discontinue support for the BNB Chain Erigon client. By adopting both Reth and Geth, the network maintains strong client diversity, which is essential for security and stability.
What You Need to Do
All node operators currently using the BNB Chain Erigon client are recommended to migrate to either Reth or Geth before the December 31, 2025 deadline.
Starting the testing and migration process early is strongly recommended to ensure a smooth transition.
